Since the dolphinarium opened in 1965, 31 dolphins have died. For instance in 2000 a female died leaving a 6 month old calf. Eighteen births have taken place at the dolphinarium of Barcelona Zoo. Up until November 16th 2015 performances with dolphins took place daily.

Billie (one of the dolphins in WDC’s adoption programme) was rescued from a polluted creek in January 1988, spending several weeks in a dolphinarium, until released back in to the wild. It seems she learned tail walking by observing the performing dolphins and, when released, began performing this unique behaviour with regularity in the wild.

The Cuvier’s beaked whale is one of the larger members of the beaked whale family. The body is torpedo-shaped and robust; the back and sides are dark grey and the belly and head are much lighter.
